Jewelry Trends from the Runway at Fashion Week

"Statement necklaces, arm cuffs, art school earrings and raw stones all made an impact on the runway this Fashion Week." Vogue

It's always interesting to me to see how a Jewelry Trend starts on the Runway as a fantasy and emerges later as a staple!  Trends may come and go, but they often do find their way down the chain, eventually, and I am going to have fun seeing where these Jewelry trends pop up this year...

MINERAL JEWELRY
Agates, Druzy, Stalagmite Crystals...a Mineral Jewelry moment is my favorite trend! I have been juxtaposing shiny objects with a touch of these rough, organic minerals in my own jewelry collections since the beginning:

ARTY EARRINGS
Do you also love a big, bold statement earring?! This trend gives added leeway, so you can go out on a limb without a worry:

DELICATE CHOKERS
Finally, we're downsizing those 3" chokers of yesteryear and trading Goth for Glam with these wispy, delicate options:

STATEMENT NECKLACES
They're here (did they ever leave?!) and they pack a punch...especially with their Pendants:

Now, I can't leave out the UFO Jewelry trend! That's right, there is such a thing. Think TOTAL FANTASY when you see this extremely Avant-Garde jewelry:

That's a wrap for today! Now, quick, go through your own jewelry collection and see what's trending...or pick up a new piece or two. :)

Flower Power!

Japanese Magnolia Blooms

If you happen to live in Charlotte, North Carolina, have you noticed the gorgeous pink Yoshino Cherry trees in full bloom? It's something I just noticed this week on Valentine's Day...everywhere I looked I saw shades of Pink. Maybe it's always been this way, but I am finally putting two and two together...only took me 40 years! ;)

Even neater to me was that my favorite Japanese Magnolia blooms opened on...you guessed it, Valentine's Day!

The bright Fuchsia color has certainly inspired me and I can't wait to see what Jewelry comes from this beautiful nod to Nature, one of my largest sources of inspiration.

How about you? Had you noticed the pink blooms coinciding with the month of Love?

Another reason I have flowers on the bloom is the fact that this season it's all about Floral. You'll see it in boutiques and online, just as I reported earlier the Sag Award dresses hinted of the trend. I couldn't be more thrilled. My inner Flower Child is even making a flower crown as we speak ;).

Here's to Spring!

Well....what more perfect way is there to announce the fabulousness within your home than with an eclectic door knocker (door jewelry, in my mind!) like one of these pretties? I must, must have the Bumblebee!

Sensitive Ears? Here's A Fix!

Earring Allergy Fix on the Laura James Jewelry Blog

After being in the Jewelry business for the past 11 years, I have come across more customers with Earring Allergies than I can count!

It's certainly not a fun thing to have happen to you, or to have to deal with, I can personally attest. And just WHY does it happen?

Well, the bottom line is this...

Metals often are mixed with a base. Metals such as 14 karat gold are only truly 58.5% gold... which means that there is a lot of base metal that is mixed in! With Nickel being the most common base AND irritant for people, it is often the culprit.

What about those 14k Gold Earrings that didn't bother you for 10 years... but suddenly you have developed an allergy to?

Metals break down over time and use, so after years of wear and tear from sweat, chlorine, etc, that 14k Gold is wearing down to the base metal...which is what is causing the allergy!

What to Do?
Well, aside from having to have your posts or earwires switched out to (rarely stocked) Niobium, Titanium or Stainless Steel...there's a new option I just found out about. Before you have to forego all of those fabulous earrings you see and wish you could wear...I think it's worth giving this Jewelry Shield product a try. I found it on Amazon for $8.99...

Basically, the silicone coating goes on like Nail Polish... and you just coat the metal, wait 6-12 hours for it to dry, then voila...no irritation, they say!

Let me know if you give it a shot...and whether it works for you or not! I am ordering my bottle today... :)

Here's to wearing earrings with ease!
